The Medulla Review
SUBMISSIONS

Submission Guidelines

The Medulla Review will be open to submissions for the third issue from March 1, 2010 until May 31, 2010.

Please include a brief third-person bio (up to 60 words) suitable for publication with your submission.  Use Georgia size 12-font and put two spaces between sentences.  Embed submissions in the body of the eMail.  Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please indicate as such.  Previous published work is not accepted.  Take the time to read the issues, and feel free to mention what you enjoyed about them in your cover letter.

Issues will appear online November 1, March 1, and July 1 of each year.  Submissions are accepted during the months of July, August, September, November, December, January, March, April, and May.  Submissions are closed during the months of October, February, and June.

You will receive a response to your submission within ninety days.  In most cases, the response time will be much quicker.

If your work is accepted for publication, The Medulla Review will obtain first time publication rights exclusively for ninety days; after ninety days rights will revert to the author, with the condition that The Medulla Review is cited as first publisher.  You are also granting The Medulla Review the rights to publish your work in a yearly print anthology---more about this soon!

Poetry

Please send 3-5 poems.  Poems of any form and length will be considered, but preference will be given to free verse poems under one page in length.  Poems of any theme and subject will be considered, but preference will be given to surreal, edgy, and accessible styles.

Submissions for the third issue will be loosely themed around the concepts of death, future/alternate realities, and apocalypse.  At the very least, submissions for this issue should be dark in nature.

Please send poetry submissions to medullapoetry2 (AT) gmail (DOT) com.  Please put “Poetry Submission” and your last name in the heading of the eMail.

Fiction

Please send flash fiction and short stories from 50 to 3,000 words.  Surreal, literary, experimental, edgy, bizarre, and mainstream writing is sought.  Horror, mystery, historical, erotica --- all themes and styles will be considered, but preference will be given to stories that blur and defy genre, to unique voices attentive to prose.

Submissions for the third issue will be loosely themed around the concepts of death, future/alternate realities, and apocalypse.  At the very least, submissions for this issue should be dark in nature.  Approximately half of the fiction for this issue has already been chosen, so competition will be very tight!  Please send only your best work, and feel free to mention how your piece ties in with the theme of the issue.

Please send fiction submissions to medullafiction (AT) gmail (DOT) com.  Please put “Fiction Submission” and your last name in the heading of the eMail;  specify word count in the cover letter.

Art

Please send cover art submissions in JPG format, and take the time to read the issues.  Your art should illuminate the gutsy, surreal writing showcased in The Medulla Review.  Confess your subconscious, and above all, make the image scream at us.

Please send art submissions to medullaart (AT) gmail (DOT) com.  Please put “Art Submission” and your last name in the heading of the eMail.
