Online Workshop: Literary Writing
This is a five-week workshop that focuses on literary writing. Students will learn how to engage the reader through elements that make for vivid, powerful, and effective creative writing. Unlike traditional academic courses, the workshop will also explore where and how to get published.
During each week of the course, students will submit one poem or prose piece to the instructor, who will then post the submission on a private wordpress blog. Prose pieces may be up to 3,000 words long, but a long story (or novel) may be weekly submitted in 3,000 word increments throughout the workshop.
Students will read all of the submissions, and by the end of the week, they will have comments and thoughtful critiques of each submitted work posted on the blog for fellow writers.
The instructor will provide critiques and offer suggestions about what literary journals the students might consider submitting their poems and stories. She will also facilitate group discussions, and students will be encouraged to ask questions.

Online Workshop: Experimental Writing
This is a six-week workshop that focuses on experimental writing. Students will learn practical, effective tools for exploring creative experimentation, and they will be actively inspired to go beyond the boundaries of traditional writing!
On the first day of the workshop, the instructor will provide participants with a writing prompt that experimentally explores the senses. Participants will complete the prompt and submit an initial draft (up to 1,000 words of poetry or prose) to the instructor within 24 hours, who will then post the works on a private wordpress blog.
Students will read all of the drafts, and within two days, they will have suggestions posted on the blog for every writer about stories or poems that could be developed from the drafts. During the second week, students will submit their revised drafts (up to 3,000 words of poetry or prose) and provide comments and thoughtful critiques to fellow writers.
The next two weeks will follow the same format outlined above, commencing with a writing prompt that experimentally explores creating characters. The final two weeks will commence with a writing prompt that experimentally explores plot and character development.
The instructor will facilitate discussions and provide critiques throughout the workshop.

During the first month, students will submit two dream summaries per week to to the instructor, who will then post the summaries on a private wordpress blog. Students will read all of the summaries, and by the end of the week, they will post suggestions on the blog for every writer about stories or poems that could be developed from the dreams.
