The Medulla Review
LOUISA CASANAVE

Romantic

Never say die, but I’ve tried it
Look up at the sky, and you’ll see it
O! the black and bright
(At the bottom of a bottle, an unrealized night
That ties me to this world, not twine but yarn
Walk me home, sing me that tune
And all gravitational pulls nullified)
How blinded am I, my genius is jaded
Get you gone my hopeful light

Romantic II

Never say die, but I've tried it
Looking behind, I have seen it
Oh, with you, I tried!
(At the top of a mountain one morning bright
around a burnt-out campfire
that tied me to you, brittle crystal strings
and all what endearing feeling brings…solidified)
that I might give you up with soiled linens
(putting my pumps away and good riddance)
that all fortitudes may multiply
my memories lying, and not quite still
peace, brain, peace. Remember the score at least!
The unhappiness felt along-side
(And every frustration, every gain un-won but theorized)
You versus my circumstances…makes me ambivalent

boy

Boy so sweet like peach pie
and even more gone then myself
I want to know how old you are
and at what age did you age so young
