"Medulla"
is the Latin word for "marrow" --- the middle part of a structure.
Bone marrow. Plant marrow. The spinal cord. It's also the name of a
record album released in 2004 by Icelandic singer Björk, an album
stripped of all instruments other than the human voice.
The Medulla Review is
a literary journal that caters to experimental and surreal writing, a place in the hindbrain where breathing, swallowing, and circulation
are done through words, a venue for those who believe in creating
reality. We want to hear your voices. What jars you? What makes you dance
on the staircase of your mind? It's about the core of things, getting
down to the essence: that soft center of being and experience where you
are free.
Updates!
I'M CURRENTLY SEEKING VOLUNTEER POETRY JUDGES for an offspring journal, The Synapse Sling! I need five underground (non-academic judges) and five academic judges (either MFA candidates or degree holders). Send a message here if you are interested: synapsesling(AT)gmail(DOT)com
The Synapse Sling will be a publication dedicated to bridging the gap between academic and underground poetry writers. There will be an entry fee with guaranteed online publishing. The catch? You must identify yourself as an academic or an underground writer and be willing to put your poem in head-to-head competition with a poem from the opposite "genre." The poems will be judged by ten people (five underground writers and five academic writers), and the judges' comments will be posted. One vote from the other camp changes everything, doesn't it? The winning poems will be published in a print anthology and contributors will receive two copies.

Donate $1.00 to The Medulla Review. I'm working on buying ISBNs for Hugh Fox's posthumous poetry book Last Leaves, and two anthologies, one focused on spiritual evolution and another one focused on the writings of former/current prison inmates. Every little bit helps!
