The Medulla Review
BENJAMIN C. KRAUSE

The Passion of Bob

He’s a staunch conservative.  Two sons and a daughter.  When he shakes your hand he really shakes it.  Solid eye contact.  Law degree from Harvard.  Perfect LSATs.  Wife is a doctor.  He loves himself: fit and healthy.  Went to state as a wrestler in high school.  Won the Heisman trophy.  Once raised Lazarus from the dead.  He’s losing his grip.  Not sure what’s real anymore.  Stumbling around in the dark and his flashlight won’t turn on.  Nearly drowned his son trying to baptize him in olive oil.  Screaming at people who aren’t there.  Hasn’t been to work in two weeks.  Feeds his meals to the dog so he can’t be poisoned.  He’s at the hospital, being shot up with God knows what.  Sick of being caged up.  Doesn’t know what’s happening.  Doesn’t know why he’s there.  Looks into the doctor’s eyes and sees a stare of pity.  He sits and waits for his ascent to heaven.
